PTP Supports Wreaths Across America for Second Year
PTP Transport is pleased to participate in Wreaths Across America again this holiday season. Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization devoted to remembering and honoring America’s veterans by distributing wreaths to all National Cemeteries across the United States.
Wreaths Across America’s History and Mission
Wreaths Across America began in 1992 by Morrill Worcester, the owner of Worcester Wreath Company in Maine. Worcester had many wreaths and decided to donate them to Arlington National Cemetery after a formative visit there as a boy. With help from volunteers and community organizations, this initial donation started a tradition that grew steadily over the years. In 2007, Wreaths Across America was formally established and has been recognized by the U.S. Congress for its impact.
The organization’s mission is to remember the fallen, honor those who served and teach the next generation the value of freedom. The organization has also added an educational outreach initiative called the TEACH Program, which is a downloadable lesson and service-based learning for students.
A Mission to Keep Moving Forward
This year’s Wreaths Across America theme is “Keep Moving Forward”. This phrase comes from Joshua Byers, the Company Commander of Fox Troop in the 2/3ACR service in Iraq in 2003. When an IED struck his Humvee and smoke filled the air, Byers gave his driver a last command to “keep moving forward.” Though Byers did not make it home, his command saved lives and became a battle cry for his unit and family.
PTP’s Partnership with Wreaths Across America
PTP Transport is proud to play an integral role in supporting Wreaths Across America in its mission to honor our veterans. This is PTP’s second year of partnership to both provide reliable transportation for the organization and contribute to a nationwide effort that remembers, honors and teaches future generations about the sacrifices made by veterans. Last year, PTP’s driver delivered wreaths to 14 national and state memorial cemeteries. Even amidst a busy holiday season, PTP is committed to bringing communities together as a tribute to those who served and are dedicated to being a part of this initiative for years to come.
Get Involved
There are numerous ways to get involved in this initiative alongside PTP. Volunteers can offer corporate support, transportation, remembrance walls, lead a sponsorship group or coordinate a drop-off location. Wreaths Across America relies on volunteers to carry out its mission, and PTP is proud to support our drivers and team members to Keep Moving Forward.
