The Benefits of Staying With Your Trucking Company Beyond One Year
The Benefits of Staying With Your Trucking Company Beyond One Year
In the trucking industry, it is common to look for the next best thing when it comes to your career. According to American Trucking Associations, there is a 90% and climbing turnover rate of truck drivers within one year of being at their company. With this high percentage, it is important that drivers understand the benefits that they will reap if they were to stay with their company beyond one year.
Building Relationships
Developing strong relationships with dispatchers, managers and fellow drivers can benefit your career. Building relationships in the trucking industry offers numerous benefits that can enhance both professional success and job satisfaction. These relationships can be hard to build when jumping from job to job, but creating these bonds may be the key to a better reputation as a dependable driver. For drivers, cultivating relationships with other drivers leads to a supportive network where they can share insights, tips and experiences that can lead to safer driving practices. It is also important that drivers connect with dispatchers. This trust between one another can ultimately lead to a more efficient work environment.
Benefits and Stability
The longer drivers stay with a company, the better benefits and stability they will experience. Many companies offer pay raises and improved benefits after a certain period, such as the one year anniversary. By staying, you may qualify for bonuses, improved health insurance or other incentives, making the job more rewarding over time.
PTP Transport is proud to offer new drivers a sign-on bonus. After 90 days, the driver will receive $1,000 and after 180 days, $2,000. Additionally, safety bonuses are offered annually to drivers. This bonus is based upon the drivers’ safety and performance history within each period and can be earned up to twice yearly. Driver referral bonuses are also available to all drivers. When the driver you refer is hired and completes their probationary period, you get paid. As they continue to grow in their driver role, you continue to get paid.
Opportunity for Growth Within
Another benefit of staying with your company beyond one year is the opportunity for growth within the company. A year or more at the same company helps you develop your skills considerably. You’ll become familiar with different routes, improve your driving techniques and habits and learn the ins and outs of the trucking industry, making you a more confident and competent driver. Having a minimum one year of experience at one company makes you more marketable. Many higher-paying positions and more desirable routes are reserved for drivers with experience, and sticking with your first employer can open doors to better opportunities down the road.
At PTP, new and recent graduates can begin as shuttles drivers and work their way up to regional drivers. Shuttle drivers gain hours on the road and are offered both in-town and interstate driving experience. Once a shuttle driver has proven their responsibility and completed a set number of hours, they can move into a local driver position. Local drivers can participate in the safety bonus program while still gaining experience extending their driving areas, and further developing relationships. Once a local driver has proven themselves, they can be promoted to regional drivers. Regional drivers are offered competitive benefits to attract top-tier talent.
At PTP, we value the loyalty of our drivers and are continually evaluating our benefits package to offer drivers the best experience possible.
