International Road Check Focuses on Safety and Compliance
International Road Check Focuses on Safety and Compliance
Every year, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) conducts the International Road Check. This 72-hour event is aimed at enforcing road safety and compliance among commercial vehicles across North America. This year the event falls between May 14-16, with the focus set on tractor protection systems and the prohibition of alcohol and controlled substances among drivers. In alignment with the 2024 theme, PTP Transport remains committed to ensuring all our drivers are informed, prepared and safe on the road.
This Year’s Focus: Tractor Protection Systems & Controlled Substance Possession
The tractor protection system is a crucial component of a truck’s air brake system. Designed to prevent air loss in the event of a trailer breakaway, the system acts as a safeguard both to the driver and other drivers or pedestrians. The maintenance of proper function and compliance with the system is a vital safety measure; as such, it will be a primary point of inspection during official checks.
Most motorists are well aware of the dangers that driving under the influence poses. For commercial drivers the danger is even greater due to the size of their vehicle or the contents they transport. Therefore, the possession of alcohol and or controlled substances is illegal for commercial drivers. This year, inspectors are primed to intensify scrutiny. By identifying violators early, officials hope to prevent tragic substance-related accidents before they can occur; promoting a safer driving environment for everyone on the road.
Preparing for the Road Check as a Truck Driver
To facilitate smooth passage through International Road Check inspections, PTP Transport encourages our drivers to:
- Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections; especially when evaluating the integrity and functionality of the tractor protection system.
- Review all regulations concerning the possession of alcohol and controlled substance to ensure adherence.
- Prior to the event, attend a refresher training session on compliance and safety provided by PTP Transport.
How Compliance is Creating Safer Streets
By participating in –and passing– road safety checks, commercial drivers avoid personal citations. More importantly, drivers who take safety checks seriously are doing their part to protect the lives of others on the road. By adhering to these basic safety standards, drivers with PTP Transport contribute to a safer driving environment for everyone, reducing accidents and fatalities on our roads. The International Road Check reminds us all of the responsibilities we have to one another behind the wheel.
