National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an annual celebration that has been nationally recognized since its launch in 1988. The week was founded by the American Trucking Associations to honor the essential contributions of truck drivers to our economy and daily lives.

Daily Life and Economic Impacts

In our constantly evolving and technologically advanced world, truck drivers are still the unsung heroes of our economy. According to Truckinfo, more than 13 billion tons of freight have been distributed by semi-trucks in 2023, meaning so far this year, 65% of domestic tonnage shipped was done by truck drivers. Additionally, PTP’s home state of Alabama employs more than 111,000 truckers according to the Alabama Trucking Association. The total trucking industry in Alabama employs one in 14 jobs throughout the state, showing just how important the industry is. 

Although many citizens may not think about it, most communities have a heavy reliance on the trucking industry. The American Trucking Associations once again estimates that more than 80% of communities in America rely solely on trucks for their freight transportation needs. Whether that freight is food, clothing or medicine, communities rely on their essentials to be delivered by a truck driver.
